The sun is shining

Mmmmm Watermelon...
Who doesn't love watermelon when the weather starts to look the way it does?! Ok, maybe somebody does, but I don't know anyone.

In searching some watermelon recipes I came accross this one on Martha Stewart's Real Simple web site, and couldn't be more excited to share it with you. The combination of mint and watermelon will have your taste buds satisfied after a long sunny Saturday, and it takes almost no time to make (bonus!).

(for more recipes from Martha Stewart Real Simple head to www.realsimple.com)
So here it is:

4 ounces thinly sliced prosciutto
3 pounds watermelon (including rind)
6 radishes, quartered
4 scallions, sliced
1/4 cup fresh mint, torn
1/4 cup salted peanuts, chopped
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
kosher salt and pepper
Directions

1) Heat oven to 400° F. Arrange the prosciutto in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake until crisp, 8 to 10 minutes.
2) Trim and discard the rind from the watermelon. Cut the flesh into 1/4-inch-thick triangles. Place the watermelon in serving dishes and sprinkle with the radishes, scallions, mint, and peanuts. Drizzle with the lime juice and oil. Season with 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/8 teaspoon pepper.
3) Break the prosciutto into pieces and sprinkle over the salad before serving.

Starbucks may have coffee right, but not oat bars

We've all tried and fallen in love with the Starbucks Oat Bars at one point or another, once you realize what goes into them, the love affair often ends.
Not only are the OatBars loaded with sugar, they also have somewhere around 45grams of fat per bar.
Here's a recipe that should satisfy the craving and leave you feeling a million times better!

Michele's OatBars

2 scoops protein powder (used plain soy)
2 cups oats
1/2 cup flaxmeal
1/2 cup coconut
1 cup raw sunflower seeds
1 tsp nutmeg
2 tsp cinnamon

1 cup applesauce
25 dates (chopped)
juice of 2 lemons
rind from 1 lemon

Mix the wet ingredients with the dry and put in 9x11 pan that has been sprayed with PAM.

Bake at 350 for about 20 minutes, let cool, cut into squares and enjoy!

Sorry ladies, he's off the market..

This week we have fantastic news, someone is finally going to say "I do" to James. Well, that is the plan at least, we just don't know if we're going to have to bribe her or not on the big day.
The wedding is in Kelowna, James and Jes's home town, and will have music done by DJ Anger (for those of you who come to the Sunday Drill you know who).
Lovisa and Adrien will be taking the weekend off coming up to make sure all goes as planned in Kelowna, and that the dance floor stays busy (somebody has to be that girl, I'm sure one of us can do that for them).

Honeyloaf takes the stage tomorrow night

Our very own Wendy Ziebart is taking the stage tomorrow night at the Victoria Events Centre for her third show with her husband and their band as Honeyloaf. They play all original songs, with a few covers (which you are bound to know the lyrics to). Check out her myspace page at www.myspace.com/honeyloaf or you can download her album on Itunes.

Hope to see you there, I know Michele, Adrien and James will all be getting their cardio in on the dance floor, and who knows, maybe even some resistance training if the night calls for a "drop it like it's hot" kind of move.

Tickets are $12 at the door. See you then!

She's off around the world

Or at least to England, France and NYC (a country to itself)

After long hard days of shopping, and late nights busting moves on dance floors across London, Vis is off to France to enjoy a little down time of wine and croissants (not to stereotype, but it will probably be happening).  We've heard from Vis every couple of days this week, nothing of fitness, but all about Top Shop and the purchases that have been made.  We'll keep you posted as we hear more.

May is here, and so is the photographer..

We managed to get out in the alley for a couple promo shots for the studio, lucky for you all the cheese was laid on thick, so prepare yourself for the arrival of our glamour shots on our studio homepage. (http://www.bdhq.ca/ incase you didn't already know). I don't know that we'll be covering magazines anytime soon, but it was great practice for those of us heading into a modelling career next, James in Particular.
We've wanted to create this blog for quite some time now, and have decided that today is the day we get started. This is primarly a source of life updates from those of us around the studio (you might make it in here too if you do something remarkable one day), meant to bring you some entertainment and updates of things happening in the world of BDHQ. When we find cool web sites or interesting articles, we will post them up here; when Lovisa get's lost in London due to poor instructions and unfamiliar accents, we will post it here; when James says his vows, we will secretely record them, and post them here (since we all are hoping there are tears..).
I think you get the point, have a fantastic day, and we'll be talking to you soon.
xoxo
